CCL Presents: A Crack the Sky Christmas

Here is the Wikipedia summary of Crack the Sky; “an American progressive rock band formed in Weirton, West Virginia in the early 1970s. . . Rolling Stone Record Guide compared them to Steely Dan; their first three albums charted on the Billboard 200.  The band has never achieved great success outside the Baltimore area; despite this, they continue to release albums and perform to a small but devoted fan base to this day.  Here’s something for all of you scarce, but devoted fans . . .

It begins with a single wooden chair. Swirling in the air. Up and down, sideways, spinning swinging to and fro, bouncing about as the alternating grip of one giddy man’s hands make for a bizarre man-chair tango on the dance floor of Stables. (scroll down for photos and video)

This middle-aged, jovial patron despite his antics on the dance floor, was just as sane and (relatively) sober as most of the crowd last Saturday night. He, like everyone on there had just paid at least $15 to see a Baltimore music legend; Cary Ziegler and his band Expensive Hobby (CZEH)- and the show was just five minutes away. Continue reading

Music Mud and Mayhem: Toops 2014

Here’s What You Missed . . .

Driving onto the farm for the annual Toops Troops pig roast was no easy task. The ground was rain soaked and even suv’s where getting stuck in the mud. By the early afternoon, volunteers were separating the rear wheel and front wheel drive vehicles for different parking areas, but this would prove useless in the end.

The mud would definitely be the headliner this year for Toops. If you didn’t go this year, you might be thinking “thank goodness I stayed home, it was a muddy mess.” You would be wrong. Continue reading

Toops: Meet the Man Behind the Hottest Ticket in Town

If you are the one person in Carroll County who has never heard of “Toops’” Troops annual pig roast / all day live music fest, you probably need to get out more. This all-day music extravaganza is the most difficult local event to find tickets for. Demand has outpaced the supply of tickets for this mini-Woodstock for years. Lucky attendees get free food and live music and entertainment all day and into the night, it’s the place to be.
