Memorial Day is over. You can still taste the charcoal from that burger on Monday every time you burp. It’s almost June you think to yourself. You feel the twinge of Labor Day approaching. The horror of winter will be upon us. But wait, don’t panic… there’ s a whole summer to get through first. WATCH: Classical Remake of The Who’s “Love Reign O’er Me”

The makers of the original rock opera have now done it again by giving us The Who’sLove Reign O’er Me” sung by an award winning English Tenor (Alfie Boe) backed by the Royal Philharmonic and the London Oriana Choir. We don’t know what that all that means, but as this video will attest, it sounds amazing. This tenor guy’s voice is uncrackable; perfect as the Hope diamond. Its chilling.

The video includes scenes from the original film adaptation of Quadrophenia and a cameo from one of the original stars of the 1979 movie at the end. This classical version of the song precedes Pete Townsend’s June release of Classic Quadrophenia. Townsend and the tenor will do this live on July 5 at Royal Albert Hall.

While this video is quite a beautiful rendition of The Who classic, we still think Eddie Vedder edged the tenor out with his performance of the song with Pearl Jam at the 2010 VH1 Music Awards. Compare for yourself below. Alfie’s voice never cracks. Eddie’s voice cracks in just the right way to make those knees weak. They both sing with passion, but one is downright spiritual. Eddie takes us to church on this one. You be the judge, tell us what you think.

Famous Album Covers Reimagined: Creepy but Cool

This album art project is so creepy its really kind of cool. Click on the link below to see more photos.

If you ever wondered what existed beyond the edges of a music album cover, now’s your chance to find out. For this series called Album Covers—The Bigger Picture, web design studio Aptitude was inspired by famous artwork from bands and musicians like Nirvana, Fatboy Slim, and Michael Jackson. Clever designers started with very well-known imagery and then imagined what might be taking place beyond the square frames. In doing so, they completely change the meaning of the many iconic works. What You Missed Last Weekend: Foreplay at Stables, “Crazy” Good

Here’s What You Missed . . .

Foreplay at Stables. You wouldn’t expect these guys to get into Rush and Zeppelin but they do. Staci Samaras, the lead vocalist has an infectious charm and a voice to boot. She is flanked by two “crazy” good guitarists. They can pretty much do anything in the classic rock portfolio, but by their own admission they favor the 70’s catalog.

We caught Foreplay last Saturday night. Its the band’s second time there. They are based in Ellicott City, and happy to broaden their reach into Carroll County.

If you missed them don’t fret; they will be playing at the July 4th picnic and fireworks celebration at the Carroll County Farm Museum. Show starts around 5pm. If you miss that, they return to Stables on Friday July 24th. In the meantime, you know the drill . . .
