Maryland resident and legendary keyboardist for Three Dog Night passed away Wednesday at age 67. Jimmy Greenspoon started with the band in 1968 and was touring with them up until just a few months ago when he received a cancer (metastatic melanoma) diagnosis. As you might imagine, his band members are saddened and stunned. He passed away surrounded by his family at his home in North Potomac.
The band was scheduled for two dates nearby later this month; The American Music Theatre in Lancaster on the 27th, and a Community Arts Center in Williamsport, Pa. No word yet on the status of those remaining tour dates. Many say Greenspoon was responsible for the unique sound of Three Dog Night. Here’s a recent interview of Greenspoon filmed just last year where Jimmy gives some “very” candid stories about music, drugs and band life, complete with gangsters, The Whiskey A Go Go and Jim Morrison.
